Puerto López – Whales of the Pacific

Rolling swells, hidden giants, tails in the air

Whales ~ Puerto Lopez Ecuador

From the Colca Canyon we travel north, reaching the Pacific coast of Ecuador. In Puerto López we board a small boat, heading out to the open sea. The swells lift us up and down, a constant rhythm of water and sky. Beneath the surface, whales swim — they come here every year from the south to breed, just as penguins journey the opposite way along the continent. We stare at the restless ocean until that magic moment arrives: a whale leaps, its tail rising into the air before vanishing again into the deep. The sea rolls on, carrying its secrets, while we wait for the next glimpse of wonder.
