A wealthy and tyrannical tycoon, Charles Richmond (Ralph Richardson), hires a beautiful Italian nurse, Maria Marcello (Gina Lollobrigida), to care for him. His nephew, Anthony Richmond (Sean Connery), plots to murder his uncle and claim his vast fortune. Maria, however, falls in love with Anthony and becomes entangled in his scheme.
