While exploring the old schoolhouse within the grounds of her new school, Momo stumbles upon a room full of props and stage instructions for the Russian play The Cherry Orchard. The school’s tradition of presenting an annual performance of the play has long been banned (due to an incident in the past). Upon learning this, Momo decides to form a drama group in secret and stage a new production. History is repeating itself, and Momo finds herself at a crossroads.
The remake is more of a mainstream feelgood movie and it’s almost a complete reworking of the story (a re-imagining), with a whole new cast of characters. It also borrows additional material and characters from the original manga (most notably the domestic scenes and the elder sister) which didn’t appear in the original movie version.
