Jasmine Women is a 2004 Chinese film directed by Hou Yong. The film is an adaptation of Su Tong’s novel Women’s Life. It portrays the emotionally troubled lives of 4 generations of Shanghai women between the 1930s and 1980s. The film was well received by critics and was praised for its use of color and the performances of Zhang Ziyi and Joan Chen, who both portrayed multiple characters. The film is divided into three chapters: “grandmother, mother, and daughter”; respectively the story of Mo, Li and Hua.
