Jack Orion is Bert Jansch’s third studio album and was released in 1966 by Transatlantic Records in London. Most of the recordings on Jack Orion are traditional songs, and many include accompaniment by John Renbourn, a talented folk guitarist who would later join Jansch in the band Pentangle. This video contains audio from the 2015 UK reissue of the album, remastered from the original tapes. I enjoy the gritty tone of this release, and relish the gutsy left & right mixing on the 10-minute centerpiece, “Jack Orion.”

This album also includes the famous arrangement of “Black Water Side” that Jimmy Page so infamously imitated.
