Tarifa Information

Tarifa is located at a strategic location between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean,  only 14 kilometres from the Moroccan coast, making it a gateway between Europe and Africa. The city has a rich history, with influences from various cultures including the Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, and Moors.

There are beautiful beaches near Tarifa, including Playa de Los Lances, which is the southernmost point of continental Europe. The town is also famous for its windsurfing and kite surfing due to the constant winds from the Atlantic Ocean. Tarifa also offers opportunities for whale watching and bird watching, particularly for migratory birds like eagles and storks that cross the Strait of Gibraltar.

Tarifa’s old town features narrow streets and white houses, and it includes historic landmarks such as the well-preserved Castillo de Guzman el Bueno. This castle dates back to the 10th century and was originally built as a Moorish fortress. It has been restored and now houses exhibitions about the history of the castle and the region.
