Etoile is a 1989 Italian-French drama film directed by Peter Del Monte. The movie tells the story of an American ballerina, Claire (played by Jennifer Connelly), who enrolls in a prestigious ballet school in Hungary. As she becomes increasingly obsessed with Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, her personality begins to change, and she starts to exhibit strange behavior. Some critics have noted similarities between Etoile and Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan (2010), which also explores themes of obsession and transformation in the world of ballet
