La Paz is the highest (administrative) capital city in the world, with the highest neighborhoods reaching 4,000 meters above sea level! Here, you feel the altitude and blood thumping in your head as soon as you get off the airplane. With an altitude difference of more than 1,000 metres between the top and the bottom of the city, it’s hard to keep your heart rate down, as going anywhere involves a steep slope and hundreds of steps.
